From Father Andrew Bahhi: Resist the Temptation to Judge

In Matthew 12, the Pharisees criticized the disciples for picking grains on the Sabbath. According to the Jewish law, there is no work on the Sabbath day, because it is for prayers and rest. You have to honor the day of the Lord. “How do you allow your disciples to do what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?” they asked.

Jesus said do you remember that one day David gave food to people? I am very happy you memorized the law. But don’t try to find someone who made a mistake and judge them.

“You only care about what appears. You don’t care about what is in the hearts,” he admonished.
Judgement is a bad habit. A lot of fathers called it “the big sin.” Because when you judge others, you all got the same judgement with which you judge people.

When the Pharisees judged the disciples, they fell into sin.

How can we get out of this big sin? When you judge others, you take rights that do not belong to you. God is the only one who can judge us. We also make mistakes which means others can judge us. Then when we are all judging each other, then society is corrupted.

Judging others makes us lose the mercy and the peace in our heart. That’s why in Mark 7:2 Jesus says, “with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” The same rules you use to judge others, God will judge you, and with an even greater amount of judgement.

When you call people something bad or make gossip, you are also judging people. We should be very careful.
Judgement comes from a lack of love. So we need to ask God for forgiveness that we do not have enough love in our hearts to keep from judging others.

I ask our heavenly father to give us a pure heart. We need to repent and ask God to forgive us.

Please don’t try to judge people who come to church. You don’t know what these people are going through. Since you know nothing, please don’t judge. And even if you know, please close your eyes.

How to avoid the sin of judgement:

1. We must have control over our mouth. From now on, commit not to talk about anybody. Please also isolate yourself from those who judge and find people who lift you up spiritually.
2. We have to do self-reviewing. See what damage we have caused others and repent. Because we forget that we actually don’t know, so why do we judge these people. Because at the end, God will judge all of us the way we judge others.
