Healing the Blind Man and Seeing The Light

This Sunday, according to our Church Calendar, we call the healing of the blind man. Jesus heals the blind Bartimeus (Mark 10:46-52).

In the beginning of the Liturgy, we begin “In your light Lord…” And by reading about this miracle, we read about how to receive light into our life.

As the Bible reads here, a lot of people were traveling from Jericho to Jerusalem for Passover, and both sides of the road were packed for what was like a huge bazaar. There were a lot of people selling because this was the season for making money.

But Jesus was traveling there for a different reason, to become the sacrificial lamb.
Bartimeus was begging on this road and people heard that Jesus was traveling on this road, and the news of Jesus was all over the region. But not everyone was thirsty for him, and yet this person was crying out with a broken heart, “son of David, have mercy on me,” despite many people telling him to stay quiet.

This man called Jesus by his right name “Son of David” – in essence saying “you are the Messiah that I am waiting for.”
A lot of time in our life, people build a wall or big divisions between us and God. And unfortunately, because of that, we often give up. But this man did not listen to what people said; he did not pay attention, he screamed out loud even more and more despite the social concerns of his yelling.

Don’t allow anyone to stop you from going to church, to hear about the salvation! Jesus came for each and every one of you. Speak to Him.

Don’t allow the evil to complain about you. Trust in Jesus and call upon Him, and you will see Him, and He will come to you.
In Psalm 105:3-4, it says “Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. Seek out the LORD and His strength; seek His face always.”

For this person, for the first time in his life, he feels important. And not for just anyone. It is Jesus, the maker of heaven and earth.

Jesus said one sentence, and a man of 40+ years suddenly could see again: “Go your way. Your faith has made you well.”
What kind of authority is this? Jesus said YOUR faith has made you well.

And the man then followed Jesus on the road.

This is the way life changes when someone follows Jesus. He gives up the old way and picks up the new way. In order to follow Jesus in the new way, the man did two things: 1. He was insisting to receive the blessing and did not pay attention to people, and 2. Jesus said “trust in me. Be of good cheer.”

Do this, and you will receive the good life to your heart, and you will be able to see Jesus, enjoy Jesus, and change your old life to a new life.
