From Father Andrew Bahhi: Living with Light in Your Heart
“And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” – John 3:19
Jesus says “I am the light of the light of the world.” Whoever believes in Jesus, the light will abide in him and will guide him, and at the end of his life, he will inherit the kingdom of God.
He is the one who gives lightness, not to condemn us but save us.
We can walk peacefully without having fear in the light.
In Genesis 1:3 – God, before anything else, in the Day 1, created the light. And on the fourth day, God created the sun and the moon. How did God create the light, and then the sun, when we know the source of the light is the sun?
That is because the source of the light is God himself, not the sun.
We need as Christians to understand the significance of the light. When we work, and when we walk, and when we think in the darkness, we can understand we need for light to walk in the right in the path.
The end of the Bible in the Book of Revelation says: “There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light.”
We need to understand the true light is the Lord Himself.
Jesus himself says, “I am the light of the world,” and then in Matthew 5:14 he says “You are the light of the world” – who is the light? The moon has no light in itself, but it reflects the light of the moon at night. We also as Christians reflect the light of Jesus.
If we have the light in our heart, if we have Jesus in our heart, we will be able to reflect through our deeds and through our behaviors the true light that we have and then we can ask people – even without preaching them or talking to them – we can tell them how the Christ is good.
Without having the true light in our heart, we will have a double life. That’s why the Bible invited us as the children of the light, how we should be. We will have fellowship with the light, which is God himself. The one who has the light has very important fellowship with God, and in John 1:5 “in him there is no darkness at all.”
We need to have this faith in him and to invite him into our heart.
And we need to have love for others. While we come to church, we hear the word of God, we pray and receive communion. And yet there are people we don’t talk with. The Bible says one who loves his brother or sister remains in the light. This light should be shown onto others. If you don’t talk with them, reconcile with them, have good relationship with them, how can you say “I have God in me”?
You have to repent and do more than what you would expect, and reconcile with those people.
We are all invited to be the light of the world. Are you really shining your faith? We need to open our heart and allow the true heart to dwell, so all our deeds will be the deeds of light.
